KAWERA NI champs

KAWERA champs; The Patea dojo attended the KAWERA tournement in Hastings on the 4th july. The tournement started with a powhiri(welcome) to the 250 competetors and their supporters, the KAWERA club had lost one of their long time students in unfortunate circumstances and as a mark of honour to 14yr old Edwin, all 200 plus competetors were led in a haka by black belt,Edwin Williams snr(the father of the decesed).
Their were clubs from across the north island including Davies karate(Waikato and Tauranga),Woosters kyokushinkai,Baycity Tae kwon do,Independant martial arts, freestyle martial arts,Kupa kick boxing and karate,R.O.A, and Zen Do Kai amongst others.
Our Patea dojo had 5 full contact fighters(who all competed in junior weapons) and 2 snr weapons competetors.Unfortunately we could find no fight for our top adult fighter,Sempai Tracey.
Jesse Guetta (15-17) 2nd in fullcontact and 2nd in (14-17) weapons,
Airana Ngarewa (14yr) 1st in fullcontact and 3rd in 14-17 weapons,
Josh Guetta (14-16) 2nd in full contact,
Waitohu Ngarewa 4th in (13 and under) weapons,
Haumene Ngarewa 1st in (10-12) fullcontact,
Sensei Darren Ngarewa 1st in senior weapons,
Sempai Tracey 2nd in senior weapons.
This was another excellent tournement organised by Sensei's Wi and Sue Akurangi and they have plans for a 2 day tourny next year so put it on your 2010 dairy. Sensei Wi will also send me a dvd of the event for those wanting to see more (contact me).
As a final comment i'd like to quote Sensei Wi "Its not about the winning or loseing, its about meeting people and making new freinds.Osu!
