KAWERA tournement

We've (Patea dojo)just competed at the nationals for KAWERA martial arts in Hastings, open to all styles and attracting near 200 competitors from styles such as kyokushinkai,Tae Kwon Do,Independent martial arts,Freestyle martial arts,Thai boxing,Zen Do Kai and others.Six of us entered(most of my own family) and competed in weapons and full contact karate.
With so many entrants, the weapons and fights were very exciting, and the different styles were good to watch compete against each other, our best five fighters did very well against some of karate's best fighters, including Davies karate,KAWERA,Bay City TKD,Independent MA Flaxmere,Thai and others.Sempai Tracey at 40 fought women halfher age,not only being cut near the eyebrow with an ileagal headpunch(which later required 5 stiches),but continued to fight and win her division(open womens),this Bushido spirit earned her female fighter of the day(and a BIG trophy),Tracey also came 3rd in senior weapons.Airana Ngarewa won his weapon and fulcontact division(12-13),Waitohu (10-11)and Haumene Ngarewa (9-11)won there fulcontact divisions,Sensei Darren 2nd senior weapons,Jesse guetta (13-14) 3rd fulcontact and 3rd weapons, all round a bloody good day for everyone. The club last competed in Hamilton (non contact, weapons)last year with bad results, but this loss has helped to up the training, especialy the conditioning, and the results have been very positive,we also made lots of freinds and helped to spread the Zen Do Kai name on the eastcoast.
