I'm currently in Hobart at LCA (http://linux.conf.au), a conference on Linux, the free operating system. Although it may not mean much to most, as well as those that like free software and those that don't like being locked into a proprietary software solution, Free and Open Source Software attracts those that understand the value of a free and open exchange of ideas and concepts.
Late last year, some of my students and I headed out of town to the Kapiti Coast Taekwon-Do club. One of my students (Dai Sempai Tim Watkins) works with the instructor Ian Leitch. Ian was wanting to play/work with some of our self defence concepts, finding another ways of looking at things ... and I'm all for sharing the knowledge for those that are prepared to front up for the harvesting of knowledge.
As I was digging through some emails, clearing things out I came across an email from someone doing some study at Uni and had an assignment. He asked what was the most practical martial art for self defence. This is what I said in reply ...
Bother bother bother ... over the years I have managed to collect bits and pieces of info about martial arts etc. Some of it I had been preparing for pushing to my club website (and this one). After William's questions about kata, I went looking for it.
It took me about 3 hours to go through the forms that people filled in at Senjo to register for the website - next time I think we'll just remind people about the site and they can do it themselves ;-) Most accounts are created - login and check that all is well.
